Royal St Georges hotel, Interlaken (canton Bern) Built between 1906 and 1908 by local architect A. Vivian, this elegant establishment attracted guests from all over the world at the beginning of the 20th century.

Schwellenmätteli restaurant, Bern The modern architecture, central location and position stretching out over the river complement each other in this special building.

Benedictine convent of St Martin, Hermetschwil (canton Aargau) The peaceful gardens of the convent produce ingredients for products which are then sold in a small shop.

Summer refectory of the Augustinian monks, Fribourg The Augustinian monastery in the Auge quarter was founded in 1250. When the summer refectory was renovated in 1748, Johann Melchior Eggmann gave it a magnificent trompe-l'œil ceiling.

Schatzalp hotel, Davos (canton Graubünden) This historic hotel, situated 300 metres above the resort of Davos, is a haven of peace set in a beautiful landscape.

Bella Lui hotel, Crans-Montana (canton Valais) The Bella Lui luxury sanatorium was built in 1929-30 by Rudolf and Flora Steiger-Crawford and Arnold Itten in the Bauhaus style, the avant-garde architecture of the time.

Summer houses in Burgdorf (canton Bern) There are numerous summer houses of all shapes and sizes - some of them highly unusual - in the small town of Burgdorf.

Beau-Site hotel, Chemin-Dessus (canton Valais) The size, location and style of this hotel, built in 1912, make it a good example of the historicising trend in the architecture of canton Valais at the beginning of the 20th century.

Grandhotel Giessbach, Brienz (canton Bern) This hotel, first built in 1874-5 by the Bernese architect Horace Edouard Davinet, was rebuilt after a fire in 1883 in its current neo-baroque style. (Picture: Keystone)

The paddle steamer Savoie, Geneva The Savoie, delivered in 1914, was one of a fleet of 12 paddle steamers built for the Compagnie Générale de Navigation of Lake Geneva between 1896 and 1927 by Sulzer Brothers of Winterthur.

Sonne hotel, Küssnacht (canton Zurich) This historic hotel was first mentioned in 1641 and was run until 1990 by the same family who gradually enlarged it. It was renovated in the 1990s.

Waldhaus hotel, Sils/Segl Maria (canton Graubünden) This luxury hotel, built between 1905 and 1908, remains largely unchanged since then. It is one of ten hotels in Graubünden opening its doors to the public during Heritage Days.

Feldschlösschen brewery, Rheinfelden (canton Aargau) The striking Feldschlösschen brewery above the town of Rheinfelden, dates from the second half of the 19th century. The castle-style building features on the company's beer labels.

The lido in Nidau (canton Bern) The lido in Nidau on the outskirts of Biel is an example of the "New Building" style of the 1920s and 30s. It offered even the least well-off the chance to swim and enjoy the fresh air.

Public baths in St Gallen The baths, built in 1904-6, are one of the town's earliest sport facilities. They are currently being restored.

Cinema, Schaffhausen Two of Schaffhausen's cinemas, dating back to 1929 and 1933, as well as the town theatre of the 1950s can be visited as part of the Heritage Days.
