Swiss women curlers are world champions

The Swiss women’s curling team are the new world champions after beating Sweden in a nail-biting final in Canada on Sunday.

It is the first time Swiss women have won the championship in 29 years.

The final score was 7:6, and the Swiss victory came only with the final stone, with a skilful manoeuvre by skip Mirjam Ott, after the lead had gone backwards and forwards throughout the game.

The two teams had played each other five times before the final, with the Swedes victorious each time.

“I am thrilled at this huge success,” Ott said. “It was a great achievement, and belongs to the whole team.“
