Fritz Brun was born in Lucerne. Piano studies with Peter Fassbänder and Willem Mengelberg. 1897 musical studies at the Cologne Conservatory. Bruhn worked as a teacher in Berlin (Prince George of Prussia), London and Dortmund. In 1903 Brun returned to Switzerland and settled in Bern. In 1909 he was nominated chief conductor of the Bern Municipal Orchestra and several choral societies (Cäcilienverein and Berner Liedertafel). In 1941 he had retired to his Villa in Morcote, on the shores of Lake Lugano, in order to concentrate on writing music, principally the composition of his Symphonies Nos. 8-10.
