Lehmann takes over as president of Swiss Ski

Leaders of the Swiss Ski Federation have elected former downhill ski star Urs Lehmann as their new president to succeed Duri Bezzola.

The 39-year-old Lehmann was chosen at a meeting in the resort of Saas-Fee in canton Valais.

Lehmann said that the main priority of the federation was “medals and victories” but it needed more money for the necessary infrastructure to achieve such an aim in all ski disciplines.

The Saas-Fee meeting also decided that St Moritz rather than Crans-Montana would be the official Swiss candidate for the world ski championships of 2015, 2017 and 2019.

St Moritz, which hosted the championships in 2003, lost out to the Austrian resort of Schladming to stage the event in 2013.
