Bern grows its own

Demand for homegrown Christmas trees has doubled in Switzerland over the past ten years, partly due to consumers' concerns about importing non-organic trees over long distances. In Bern you can cut down your own tree at one of a number of plantations owned by the Buergergemeinschaft, an association of old Bernese families. These forests supply 5,000 Christmas trees annually for sale locally. (swissinfo, Julie Hunt)
