Paul Burkhard / Hans Schaeuble: Kammermusik.

swissmusic

This historical recordings are a special release by the Zentralbibliothek Zürich, drawn from its collections, under the Neujahrsstück label. This year's focus lays in both Swiss composers Burkhard and Schaeuble. First gained great success by composing Die kleine Niederdorf-Oper, Der Schwarze Hecht (The Black Jack) or the Zäller Wiehnacht (Christmas at Zell). But Burkhard also composed grave music such as Sieben Stufen des Lebens, begleitet von einer Nachtigall, der Bringerin des sanften Todes (Seven steps of life). He finished this work, which portrays life from birth to death, 1976, only a year shy from his own passing. Burkhard conducted the version on this album himself. Schaeuble was an alter ego of Burkhard and a very promising composer whose popularity was overshadowed in later years.
