Swiss observe historic South African election (1994)
Swiss Radio International takes a closer look at the Swiss election observers chosen to help oversee South Africa's first non-racial elections since the end of apartheid in 1994. (Length: 5.09 minutes)
It is Switzerland’s biggest contribution yet to an observer mission. Giorgio Fontana, in charge of the observers’ practical training, explains how they will work. Paul Suter, director of the Office for Peace Policy which organises observer missions, discusses Switzerland’s growing participation in international peacekeeping missions since 1988.
