Singer picks up German music industry award

Swiss singer Stefanie Heinzmann has been named best pop-rock act at the German music industry's annual Echo awards.

A teary Heinzmann thanked fans and said she had been left "totally speechless" while accepting the award at the ceremony in Berlin on Saturday.

Earlier in the week the 19-year-old from canton Valais won best song and was named best newcomer act at the Swiss Music Awards.

The Echo awards are granted by the German association of recording companies. Winners in the 27 categories are determined by annual sales figures.
