Super-G successes for Cuche and Suter

Swiss skiers Didier Cuche and Fabienne Suter have secured first and second podium places in World Cup super-G events on Friday.

Cuche won the World Cup super-G in Kitzbühel in Austria. At 1:17:94 he was 0.28 seconds ahead of Austria’s Michael Walchhofer, who still heads the standings in the discipline. Another Austrian Georg Streighberger was in third place.

It was Cuche’s 12th World Cup success and his third of the season. Fellow Swiss Carlo Janka came 18th but stayed atop the overall World Cup standings.

Swiss skier Fabienne Suter secured her first podium place of the season after coming second in the super-G in Italy.

Suter completed Cortina’s Olympia delle Tofane course in a time of 1:22.41, just 0.67 seconds short of first placed Lindsey Vonn of the United States. In third place was Anja Paerson of Sweden with a time of 1:22.48.
