Television pulls plug on Mister Switzerland

The future of the Mister Switzerland beauty competition is in doubt after the public television station SF announced it would cease to produce and broadcast the event.

Swiss-German broadcaster SF has produced and broadcast the event since 2005. The station blamed declining audience numbers for its decision to end the collaboration.

Held in early April, the 2011 Mister Switzerland competition attracted just 26.3 per cent of the Swiss-German television audience.

The decision by SF follows a similar move by Swiss-French television station TSR, which did not broadcast this year’s competition.

A spokesman for the event, Urs Brülisauer, said the organisation was in talks with private televisions stations for next year’s event.

The decision does not affect the Miss Switzerland competition.

A smartphone displays the SWIplus app with news for Swiss citizens abroad. Next to it, a red banner with the text: ‘Stay connected with Switzerland’ and a call to download the app.
