The state-of-the-art complex, which will employ 1,500 staff, will provide capacity to meet a growing demand for Totole, the leading seasoned broth brand in China.
The new factory, costing RMB320 million (SFr49.6 million) will produce more than 100,000 tons of bouillon when fully completed, doubling the capacity of the existing facility.
Nestlé and Totole signed a partnership agreement in Switzerland in August 1999, with Nestlé acquiring an 80 per cent stake in the company.
The Swiss food giant has established 21 factories across China. About 98 per cent of Nestlé products manufactured in China are sold within the country. With a staff of about 13,000 in the country, Nestlé had sales of RMB14 billion in the Greater China Region in 2008.
