The Japanese division of the Swiss food giant, Nestlé, has announced it is acquiring a major vending machine business in Japan from the UCC Ueshima Coffee Company.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nestlé Japan will take over more than 100,000 units with sales of about SFr643 million
In a statement from its headquarters in Vevey, Nestlé said it would use the network as a sales channel for ready-to-drink Nescafé and Nestea products. The machines will also carry UCC Ueshima Coffee products.
It added that the agreement allows Nestlé Japan to expand significantly its vending network for ready-to-drink coffee and tea products, a sector which has “enjoyed tremendous success and shown rapid growth”. Other Nestlé products will be gradually added to the current line of products available.
Nestlé already has two partnerships in Japan, giving it access to a broad network of vending machines for its Nescafé, Nestea and Milo products.
Last week, the Nestlé Group announced it had a record 1999 business year, achieving a net profit of SFr4.724 billion, up 12.3 per cent over the previous year.
