Moving art, recycled
The Swiss painter and sculptor Jean Tinguely, who died in 1991, is best known for his sculpted machines or kinetic art, known officially as metamatics. His art satirised the mindless overproduction of material goods in industrial societies.
Tinguely grew up in Basel but moved to France in 1952 to pursue a career in art. He belonged to the Parisian avantgarde in the mid-twentieth century. swissinfo takes a look back at Tinguely’s kinetic art throughout his career. (SF/RTS/swissinfo.ch)
