Rosset was prevented from the reaching the quarter-finals in a match which was dominated by long breaks in play due to heavy rain, slow balls and a tricky surface to play on.

Squillari had from the outset been tipped as the favourite and after a rapid first set victory it was Rosset who fought back in the second set. However, after both players had won five games each, the Argentine turned tables and pulled through to win the match.

Squillari is playing Gaston Gaudio of Argentina on Sunday in the quarter finals.
Also on Sunday, the Spaniard Alex Corretja takes on the Chilean, Marcel Rio.

Corretja is the number one seed of the tournament and will be hoping to snatch the title from the defending champion, Albert Costa, who's made it to the semi-finals.

Costa, beat the Czech, Jiri Novak 6-3 6-1, and Mariano Puerto of Argentina beat France's Sébastien Grosjean, 7-6 6-3.

Originally, the Gstaad tournament was due to have ended on Sunday. But the organisers announced the finals would not be played until Monday due to heavy rain interrupting play in recent matches.
