About 400 people gathered in Geneva, where many draped Israeli flags over their shoulders and sang songs in Hebrew. Various speakers criticised Hamas and repeated that Israel has a right to defend itself.

In Lausanne about 750 people marched through the streets to show solidarity with Gaza. Some chanted "We are all Palestinians" while others said the Jewish state was engaged in "murder".

Meanwhile in Gaza itself the fighting continued on Wednesday for the 19th day.
