The incident occurred around 2.45pm near the Andermatt train station. The train was carrying about 30 people, none of whom were injured.

All passengers were transferred to the chairlift between Andermatt and Nätschen, train company Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn said in a statement.

The company said traffic on the line would be disrupted for the rest of Sunday but trains between Nätschen and Diesentis were running as normal.
