Grasshoppers hot on Basel’s heels
Grasshoppers Zurich have closed the gap on leaders Basel in the football league table thanks to a 1-0 win over Sion.
The Zurich side are now only one point behind Basel, who face Servette on Monday. Basel, who lost at home to Grasshoppers last weekend, have two games in hand.
The club’s top scorer, Richard Nuñez, once again came up with the goods, scoring the winning goal – his 22nd of the season – in the 74th minute.
It was Grasshoppers’ fourth win in a row, while Sion remain rooted to the foot of the table and have yet to win a point in the final round of matches.
Zurich vs Lugano
Third-placed team Lugano easily beat FC Zurich 2-0 at home, with Oliver Biaggi opening the scoring with a header in the 33rd minute.
Julio Hernan Rossi then made it 2-0 in the 68th minute, taking the Ticino team to their third home victory in the final round.
Young Boys vs St Gallen
Young Boys are also on a winning streak and beat St Gallen 1-0, which took them into fourth place of the league.
Gürkan Sermeter’s winning goal, gave the Bern side their fifth home victory in a row.
