Stun guns and knives seized at Geneva station
Swiss customs officials have arrested six people as they attempted to cross from Geneva into France carrying a cache of illegal weapons.
The incident occurred on Monday at Geneva’s main train station, when a search of the group’s luggage revealed 45 illegal weapons disguised as everyday objects.
Among the weapons were ten stun guns disguised as flashlights and a further 32 disguised as mobile telephones.
Officials also seized knives, a telescopic baton, balaclavas, handcuffs and several counterfeit watches.
The men, who according to Swiss authorities are residents of Lyon in the south of France, were handed over to Geneva cantonal police.
The seizure comes as unions representing Swiss border guards continue their push for an increase in staffing from 340 to 400 agents to cover the Geneva region.
