Two more swine flu cases reported
Two more cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Switzerland, bringing the total number up to ten since the outbreak began in Mexico in April.
The patients are a 59 year old woman and 71 year old man from the western canton of Vaud, who returned from New York on Saturday. They are being treated at home.
The Vaud cantonal medical officer said on Monday that the two are doing well. The couple’s son, who lives at the same address, has also been placed in quarantine, he said.
Vaud has now had four confirmed cases. The others are two in the canton of Bern, and one each in Basel City, Basel Country, Aargau and St Gallen.
According to the Federal Health Office, eight suspected cases were still under investigation on Monday morning.
Travellers returning from infected areas who experience flu symptoms when they get home are advised to contact their doctor immediately. However, the overwhelming majority of such cases turn out to be negative.
