Vintage wines beckon after good harvest
Swiss winegrowers are expecting a good vintage after last autumn's grape harvest thanks to optimal weather conditions in 2007.
Agricultural services in winegrowing cantons have announced that grape quality was good and sometimes very good.
According to the Federal Agriculture Office, more than one million hectolitres (100 litres) of grape juice were produced, slightly more than in 2006, although this figure remains lower than the ten-year average.
This total is split almost evenly between red and white wine production.
There are nearly 15,000 hectares of vineyards in Switzerland. White wine varieties account for 43 per cent of this surface, red wine for 57 per cent.
