Bartlett completes move from Zurich
South Africa striker Shaun Bartlett has made permanent his loan move from FC Zurich to English side Charlton, in a deal reportedly worth more than SFr 5 million (£2 million).
The 28-year-old international has been on loan to the London club since November and Charlton have now exercised an option to sign him after the loan period.
Bartlett’s first five months in the English Premiership have been highly successful. He began his Charlton career with two goals on his home debut against Manchester United, and has since scored a total of seven goals in 18 appearances.
“Shaun has settled in well and we’re very pleased with his contribution to date,” Charlton’s manager Alan Curbishley told the club’s website on Tuesday. “He has already proven that he can score goals against the best teams in the Premiership and I’m confident that will continue.”
FC Zurich are yet to confirm the size of Bartlett’s transfer deal, but the amount is likely to be a welcome addition to manager Gilbert Gress’s summer shopping list. With one round of the Swiss league season remaining, Zurich are currently bottom of the championship table.
