The number of Aids-related deaths in Switzerland registered a fall during 2001.
According to statistics released on Saturday by the Federal Office for Public Health, 29 people died in Switzerland of Aids-related illnesses during 2001, compared to 57 people in 2000.
The report also confirmed that 20 of those who died over the last 12 months were men.
Statistics indicate that just over 200 people contracted the disease during 2001, while a further 578 were infected by the HIV virus.
Officials said the largest concentration of people reported to have contracted the virus is in canton Geneva, with an average of 14.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
