Arosa laughs off the cold thanks to comedy festival
The Swiss alpine resort of Arosa is launching its winter season with a laugh by opening the town's 10th comedy festival on December 7.
Temperatures may be falling but humour levels are rising as visitors to the ski area gear up to enjoy the latest in après ski entertainment.
The festival is showcasing comedy acts from eight countries, including Switzerland, Germany, Australia and Britain, so both German and English speakers can share in the fun.
Guest stars include Germany’s Michael Mittermeier and Switzerland’s Ursus and Nadeschkin.
The furthest afield “funsters” have travelled all the way from Australia and New Zealand with an act called the Shenanigan Brothers. The Brits are represented by late night specials from the Acoustik Maniaks and Dillie Keane.
Several comedians will appear for the first time in Switzerland, among them Austria’s Alf Poier, as well as Germany’s Sissi Perlinger and Willy Astor.
The alpine resort also boasts a world première with the Swiss production “Stage TV”, which consists of performances with new and classic elements, such as acrobatics and juggling.
Martin Vincenz, head of the festival says he wanted to ensure that as well as “showing traditional forms of comedy,” the Arosa festival should also provide a platform for innovation.
