Bern considers duty-free shopping on arrival
Switzerland could soon join the list of countries which open up their duty-free shops at airports to incoming passengers.
The move would grant Swiss airports a competitive edge, create up to 80 new jobs and boost extra revenue by an estimated SFr60 million ($56.4 million) annually, according to the finance ministry.
“There is not likely to be a noticeable disadvantage for the retail trade as a result,” the statement added.
The cabinet on Friday decided to present a bill to be discussed in parliament.
There are presently 58 countries around the world, including five in Europe, which offer duty-free shopping for both arriving or departing air travellers.
