Davis Cup return for Rosset

Rosset is set to return to Davis Cup action after an absence of almost two years Keystone

Switzerland's Davis Cup captain Jakob Hlasek has confirmed that Marc Rosset will be in his squad for next month's quarter-final tie against France.

Saturday’s announcement followed a meeting at which the two men appear to have patched up their differences. The two former doubles partners fell out with each other more than a year ago after Hlasek decided to drop Rosset from the squad.

At the time Hlasek said he wanted to concentrate on the development of the country’s younger players. When the captain subsequently changed his mind, Rosset said that he would never play for Switzerland while Hlasek was in charge.

The Genevan player’s recent slump in form seems to have brought about a change in heart. After crashing out in the first round of the Key Biscayne Master Series tournament on Thursday, Rosset said he would welcome any help Hlasek could offer him.

On Saturday Hlasek complied, announcing that he would include Rosset in a provisional five-man squad for the encounter in Neuchatel. The Swiss captain will then make a late decision as to which four players are selected for the final team.

Roger Federer and doubles specialist Lorenzo Manta are almost certain to feature, leaving Michel Kratochvil and George Bastl to fight for the last remaining spot.
