Davos continue winning ways
Davos have kept their stranglehold on the Swiss ice hockey championship with an away victory in Kloten.
The Graubünden team, fresh from their Spengler Cup victory, stifled the Flyers game at the Schluefweg. Kloten managed only one goal in the initial period, while Davos beat the opposition keeper Pavoni three times, scoring in each shift.
Langnau kept their tenuous playoff hopes alive with a win at the Ilfis against Ambri, making the break in the median period with a 3-1 scoreline. The Tigers eventually won 5-3.
Zurich also took a further step forward to the playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Bern at home. The Lions are still in the eighth and final playoff berth, but are also just one point behind the Bears.
Fribourg beat Chur who are currently rock bottom of the overall league table with only 14 points. Their 2-1 victory was enough to ensure fourth position for Fribourg, who have 39 points.
Second-placed Lugano fought hard to win their match against Lausanne. With the score level after three periods, a goal in the final shift secured the Ticinese side’s 6-5 victory.
No winner emerged from the match between Zug and Rapperswil. While Zug established a two-point lead in the first period, the second was a closely fought affair. Rapperswil scored two goals to their rivals’ three.
Rapperswil made a valiant attempt to make up their loss in the third and final period but ultimately shared five points with third-placed Zug. Rapperswil currently lie in ninth place with 31 points overall.
