Davos keep the heat on Lions

Second-placed Davos are maintaining their chase of ice hockey top-flight leaders Zurich Lions. On Sunday they also delivered stragglers La Chaux-de-Fonds a painful 8-1 defeat in the process.

After taking two goals in the first period, Davos rammed home four in the second. All La Chaux could manage was a single response in the second, before Davos snatched two more in the third.

La Chaux are firmly anchored to the foot of the table’s playout zone, with a mere six points in 26 matches. Davos, meanwhile, have 35.

The Davos win keeps them five points behind top-placed Lions, who won their away game against Zug 5-2. But Lions have played 28 matches to Davos’ 25, so have no room for complacent thinking as the season wears on.

In Sunday’s other games, Lugano won a low-scoring canton Ticino derby, beating Ambri 2-0. Bern and Fribourg kept it level 1-1, matching the score between Kloten and Langnau, while Rapperswil beat Chur 4-2.
