Djokovic takes down Wawrinka in Monte Carlo

Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland has lost to third-ranked Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Monte Carlo Masters tennis tournament.

Djokovic, of Serbia, beat the 24-year-old Wawrinka 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in two hours and 27 minutes on Saturday.

Wawrinka, seeded 13th, managed to break djokovic in the ninth game to win the first set but Djokovic came back strong, winning two break points with aggressive play.

Wawrinka had a disappointing third set, committing 60 faults.

Wawrinka’s loss comes two days after he defeated compatriot and former world number one Roger Federer. Wawrinka has now lost six of eight meetings with Djokovic, including the last five. He is ranked 16th.

Djokovic, the 2007 Australian Open champion, will face Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the world’s top player.
