FC Zurich win Super League championship
FC Zurich claimed their 12th championship title in Super League football on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Bellinzona.
The Grasshoppers, a rival Zurich club, helped seal the deal with a 4-1 win over FC Basel. That score eliminated any chance of Basel capturing enough points to take the title.
Alexander Alphonse scored the winning goal for FC Zurich 31 minutes into the game.
During the Basel match, the Grasshoppers were down for much of the first half 1-0. Around 40 minutes into the game Antonio Dos Santos equalised the score before Senad Lulic pulled the Zurich team ahead 2-1.
The deathblow came 54 minutes into the game when Roland Linz scored to make it 3-1. Alain Schultz poured salt into the wound with a fourth goal for the Grasshoppers 84 minutes into the game.
One week ago FC Zurich lost to FC Basel 3-1 and missed a chance to take the championship title then.
