The Swiss voice in the world since 1935

Federer still on course

Roger Federer gave his fans some heart-stopping moments as he battled his way through to the quarter-finals at the French open on Monday.

The Swiss star lost the first two sets to Germany’s Tommy Haas, 6-7, 5-7 before finding his form and coming back to take the last three 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 in a match lasting just over three hours.

He will meet Gaël Monfils of France, who beat Andy Roddick of the United States, in the next round.

World number one and four times winner at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal, was knocked out of the tournament on Sunday, possibly leaving the way open for Federer, the world number two, to win the only one of the four grand slam tournaments that has so far eluded him.
