Hingis and Gagliardi shine at Indian Wells
Swiss tennis stars Martina Hingis and Emmanuelle Gagliardi have both won fourth-round ties at the $2.1 million tournament in Indian Wells.
Hingis, who is seeded second at the prestigious Californian event, had little difficulty seeing off Russia’s Elena Likhovtseva – winning through to the fourth round in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
The world number four, who was the 1998 tournament winner, will now go on to face Zimbabwe’s Cara Black in the last 16.
Swiss number three Gagliardi also coasted through her third round appearance, easily overpowering her Slovakian opponent, Janette Husarova, 6-2, 6-0. The victory saw Gagliardi celebrating three wins in a row for the first time this year.
The Genevan goes on to meet Russia’s Anastasia Myskina in the next round.
