Household spending increased in line with wages
Swiss private households spent an average of SFr5,430 ($5,000) on consumer goods a month in 2007, according to figures published by the Federal Statistics Office.
The Office said on Monday that households benefited from the “positive” economic climate, spending about SFr240 more than in the previous year.
In particular, consumers spent more on housing, furnishings, travel, entertainment and recreation.
The Office noted that the additional expenditure coincided with an increase in income, mainly due to a rise in salaries.
The Household Budget Survey 2007 noted that average disposable income was SFr6,275 a month, or five per cent more than the previous year.
