Kratochvil through to second round
Switzerland's Michel Kratochvil has won his first match in a Grand Slam tournament. He beat the US player, Justin Gimelstob, in a tough-fought match in the first round of the French Open.
The Swiss Davis Cup team player took the opening set 6-4 before losing the second in a tie-break 6-7. But he took the next two sets 6-3, 6-1 to book his place in the next round.
The 20-year old from Berne had to make it through three qualifying rounds last week before his match with Gimelstob, who’s ranked 40 places higher in the ATP listings at 92.
Kratochvil will now face the Bulgarian, Orlin Stanoytchev, in the second round.
