Swiss cyclist Franco Marvulli could miss out on this month's Zurich six-day race after suffering a nasty fall on Wednesday.

Marvulli was thrown from his bike during the first day’s action at the three-day race in Capetown, South Africa, when another rider rammed into him during a handover between Marvulli and his partner Alexander Aeschbach.

The 23-year-old star, who won gold in the Omnium event at this year’s European Championships before finishing fourth with Aeschbach in the world championship Madison race, picked up a gaping wound in his kneecap in the collision.

Marvulli needed several stitches on the injury and said he was unsure whether he would recover in time for the prestigious Zurich event, which gets underway on November 26.
