(AP) — The Swiss government on Thursday announced that travel and insurance companies have agreed to pay SFr4.8 million ($3.2 million) in compensation to victims of a terrorist attack in the Egyptian tourist resort of Luxor.

Thirty five Swiss tourists were among the 67 people killed by Islamic extremists in the attack at the temple of Queen Hatshepsut in November 1997.

The Swiss fund will be distributed to survivors and families of victims and is meant to ease hardship as a result of the tragedy.

The justice ministry helped broker the agreement after prolonged arguing between insurance companies and key tour operators over who was responsible.
