Swiss note goals missed at the Olympics
Of the 146 Swiss athletes who participated in the Winter Olympic Games in Canada this year, a third failed to achieve the goals set prior to participation.
“At least nobody can accuse us of having selection criteria set too high,” Swiss Olympic president Jörg Schild told a Lausanne media conference on Tuesday. He added that only “world class” athletes were able to shine at the Games.
The overall performance of the Swiss team was enviably good, Schild pointed out. The Swiss delegation won six gold medals and three bronze. The team had hoped to win ten to 12 medals.
Meanwhile, Swiss Olympic is considering whether Switzerland stands a chance of hosting the Olympic Games in the future. A task force will present its feasibility findings by the end of June.
Swiss Olympic is the umbrella organisation for the nation’s athletic associations.
