Swiss president meets children of Swiss abroad
Swiss Finance Minister Hans-Rudolf Merz, who is this year's president, has met expatriate children for their traditional question and answer session in parliament.
After giving the children an explanation of how the political system works, Merz was put under the spotlight with a host of questions about himself on Tuesday.
He told them how much he earned (SFr400,000 or $369,191), explained that he had various collections of carved wooden cows but did not possess any garden gnomes.
Merz said that the working day of a cabinet minister started early. He explained that he went jogging before going to work, where meeting followed meeting.
“And suddenly, it’s the evening,” he said.
It’s a tradition for the president to receive a small delegation of the 400 expatriate children staying at a special holiday camp arranged for them in Switzerland.
