Weisshaupt captures rowing gold in Poland
Switzerland's Pamela Weisshaupt has won the women's lightweight skulls event at the World Rowing Championships in the western Polish city of Poznan.
Thirty-year-old Weisshaupt from Zurich took her second consecutive victory by beating Laura Milani of Italy by 0.95 seconds. Third came Juliane Rasmussen ofDenmark 1′ 19″ behind.
The gold medal crowned a season that had begun badly for Weisshaupt, who had suffered an injury.
But Weisshaupt was favourite for Sunday’s event after a semi-final race in which she finished almost two seconds in front of the United States rower Meghan Sarbanis.
