Ice hockey players get revenge against Finland

Swiss players celebrate their 4-3 win over Finland Keystone

The Swiss ice hockey team has beaten Finland in its second friendly in the run-up to the World Championships.

Ralph Krueger’s team was losing 1-3 going into the final period but rallied and scored three goals to take the match 4-3.

Saturday’s win in Kreuzlingen, northern Switzerland, made up for a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Finns on Wednesday.

The match started badly for the hosts, with Finland scoring in the eighth and 25th minutes. However in the 34th minute Martin Plüss scored the first Swiss goal against Finland for 280 minutes of play.

The Swiss comeback involved goals from Ivo Rüthemann, Sandy Jeannin and a second one from Plüss.

The game was a lead-up to the 2009 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, which begins on April 24 in Switzerland.
