(AP) — Three U.S.-related buildings received minor damage early Thursday from fireworks placed on windows, Zurich police said.
Damaged were entrance areas or windows of the America Center, a cultural operation of the U.S. government, a branch of Chase Manhattan Bank and a building related to American Airlines, possibly a travel agent, police said.
Radio 24, a private broadcaster, said it received a claim of responsibility from a group calling itself Freedom for Mumia Abu-Jamal, who is on death row in Pennsylvania.
Abu-Jamal, 45, was convicted of murdering a Philadelphia policeman in 1981 and sentenced to death. Defense attorneys have filed an appeal claiming the judge was biased and black jurors improperly were kept off the jury.
The group said it had conducted the attacks with fireworks rockets. Police said the devices were affixed to the windows, then ignited.
