Lambiel misses gold again
Switzerland's Stéphane Lambiel has won the silver medal at the European Figure Skating Championships in Croatia.
Czech Tomas Verner took the gold. Lambiel’s ach rvial Brian Joubert of France was awarded bronze at the competition on Thursday.
Lambiel managed to improve on his third place after the short event on Wednesday, but still fell more than seven points short of Verner.
Although he delivered an assured performance, he made several mistakes and commentators said there wasn’t much else in this Flamenco routine to challenge Verner’s score.
It is the second time in a row that Lambiel – twice world champion and Olympic silver medallist – has failed to capture the European title.
“You could feel the stress in the dressing room. I gave it my best and it felt good on ice,” Lambiel said after the competition.
Lambiel’s hopes are now pinned on the world championships in March.
