Zurich clinch home win against Chur
Sixth-placed Zurich Lions have beaten bottom of the league Chur at home 5:2, leaving both team's table positions unchanged.
In front of a 7,500-strong home crowd in Zurich’s Hallenstadion, the Lions pulled off a convincing victory against the Graubünden team, winning two of the three periods.
The first period got off to an electric start with a goal from Zurich’s Dan Hodgson in the second minute followed by another 16 minutes later from teammate, Jan Alston. Chur fans had to wait half an hour before they had anything to celebrate with Johan Witehall scoring in the 30th minute bringing the goal tally to 2:1.
But any celebration was short-lived as Zurich’s Michel Zeiter was severely injured in the second period after Witehall skidded off his blades just after scoring his second goal and Chur’s equalizer. The Graubünden player was knocked off guard by a Zurich defender and as he fell his blade swiped across Zeiter’s neck.
Zeiter was immediately taken off the ice and given emergency first aid. He sustained a deep wound and lost a substantial amount of blood.
The third round was then a clean sweep for the Zurich Lions with the team scoring three goals. Hodgson and Alton scored their second of the match and Peter Jaks notched up his 11th of the season.
