Grindelwald lies at the foot of the mighty peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and in the 19th century, the Grindelwald glaciers reached down to the valley floor. For these reasons, Grindelwald was one of the first villages in the Alps to attract tourists. Even today, the natural beauty is unparalleled. Opinions are divided however on the way the village has developed into a modern resort.
