Swiss Abroad youth camps Exploring the great outdoors

What’s it like visiting Switzerland as a young Swiss who lives abroad? Here are some impressions from youth at recent camps run by the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad. (OSA/

Around 130 young people were in Switzerland to take part in camps ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad. For some of them, they have never lived in the country, and neither has their Swiss parent, or parents. Joining a Swiss abroad summer camp is a way in to the psyche of Switzerland.

The young people are taken around the different language regions of the country, visit areas of cultural and historical significance, and find out about everyday life here.

Groups of young people were given cameras to explore the issues of nature, tourism, sport and politics.

In the videos (see related) they show how they have learned to survive out in the wild, the importance of contact with the public for asylum seekers, the meaning of active tourism and how Switzerland relies on nuclear energy.
