A visit to Basel’s traditional autumn fair

The Basel autumn fair is Switzerland's largest and oldest autumn fair. For two weeks more than 470 roller coasters, carousels, ghost rides and market stands occupy the public squares. Martha and Fritz Müller have been setting up their amusement ride at the event for decades. (SF/swissinfo.ch)

In Blatten, in the Lötschental valley in Valais, an estimated nine million cubic metres of ice, mud and rock crashed down a nearby mountain on May 28, wiping out the village. The few houses that remained intact were later flooded.
