Clashes between police and rival fans have marred the latest match in Switzerland’s ice-hockey play-off finals. Several people were injured.
The violence erupted in Zurich after the match between local club ZSC Lions and their opponents, Lugano.
Police used tear gas and rubber bullets to separate rival fans and halt acts of hooliganism, a spokesman said. They were pelted with rocks and stones were also thrown at trams.
A number of people, including policemen, were injured, but no arrests were made. A police spokesman said the fans’ behaviour had been exceptionally aggressive.
The clashes began shortly after Lugano beat ZSC Lions 3-2, squaring the best-of-seven play-off finals at one-all.
Before the match, police had already intercepted and searched fans travelling from Lugano to Zurich. A police spokesman said there were fears of further violence during the remaining play-off matches. The next encounter is on Saturday.
