Two of the Russian goals were scored by Vagner Love. Lausanne president Jean-François Collet had described Love ahead of the game as “one of the best Brazilian forwards in the world”.
The other came from Sergey Ignashevich, who also plays for the Russian national team.
The match was watched by a crowd of 11,500 in Lausanne’s Pontaise stadium, revamped to provide better security in accordance with the Uefa demands for group stage games.
Lausanne was without Buntschu and Meoli, both of whom are injured, and Moscow played without Doumbia for the same reason.
In the other Group F match Sparta Prague playing at home beat Palermo 3:2.
The Swiss team is thus currently bottom of the group on goal difference. They meet Palermo in two weeks time.
In other matches, Young Boys of Bern lost 0:3 against Stuttgart in Group H.
