Hingis through to semi-finals in Rome tennis tournament

The world's number one tennis player, Switzerland's Martina Hingis, has secured her place for the semi-finals of the Rome WTA tennis tournament. She defeated on Friday Spain's Arantxa Sanchez in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
Hingis goes on to face France’s Amélie Mauresmo, who defeated the Argentinian Paola Suarez 6-4, 7-5.
Initially, Hingis met with some difficulty against Sanchez, who led the Swiss player 2-1, and then 3-2. But Hingis then won the following four games, and took the first set.
Sanchez was unable to regain her confidence, and only managed to win one game in the second set.
Hingis faces a tough match against Mauresmo in the Rome semi-finals. At the Berlin tournament last week, the French player defeated Hingis in three sets in the semi-finals.
However, Hingis has won six out of nine encounters with Mauresmo.
The winner of the Hingis-Mauresmo match will face either Spain’s Conchita Martinez or the Yugoslav Jelena Dokic in the finals.
