Third of four avalanche victims found

Debris of avalanche in Vallon d Arbi
One person is believed to be still missing after an avalanche came down near Riddes on Friday Valais cantonal police

Rescue services have found the body of a third person who went missing in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps last week.

The 32-year-old French citizen was part of a group of four who were swept away by an avalanche in the Vallon d’Arbi External linkregion, near the Verbiers ski resort, on Friday.

Two other skiers were rescued shortly after the avalanche came down at an altitude of about 2,200 metres.

One victim is still missing and police say it is unlikely that anyone will be found alive. The search was called off on Wednesday afternoon as the risk of further avalanches was too high.

Police indicated that the search for the 57-year-old missing person from canton Vaud would continue with regular inspections of the area over the next few weeks.
