Strasser misses 400 metres medal
Switzerland's Chantal Strasser failed to reach medal-winning form in the final of the 400 metres freestyle at the European short-course swimming championships in Valencia, Spain, on Saturday.
Strasser, who won the 800 metres gold on Friday, was placed sixth with a time of 4:12.34. The 400 metres gold went to the promising Russian teenager Irina Ufimtseva, who timed 4:06.71, ahead of the Czech Republic’s Jana Pechanova with 4:09.52.
Rebecca Cooke of Britain won the bronze with 4:10.8.
Meanwhile, in the men’s events, Switzerland’s Karel Novy won bronze in the 100 metres freestyle. The gold went to Sweden’s Stefan Nystrand, while Denis Pimankov of Russia won the silver.
